From the recording Shadows Part Slowly

The swamp rock of Creedence Clearwater Revival was a big influence for both guitarist A. J. Curtis and me.  When we were laying down tracks for my audio book CD, Until Death Do Impart, it just seemed natural to write something in that genre for the disc.

Lyrics

SHADOWS PART SLOWLY

Gator eyes rise from the black bayou floor
Whippoorwills call through the sharecropper's door
Cottonmouths crawl through the canebrake below
Cemetery vaults catch the moon's dying glow

Shadows part slowly
After midnight
Shadows part slowly
Ghost on the wind
Shadows part slowly
Haunted by a hoodoo
Shadows part slowly
Hell hound's a comin'

From deep in the swamp comes a wildcat's cry
A zombie has risen with hell in his eye
Foul blood mixes with Voodoo Mon's curse
Shadows part slowly revealing a horse-drawn hearse

Shadows part slowly
After midnight
Shadows part slowly
Ghost on the wind
Shadows part slowly
Haunted by a hoodoo
Shadows part slowly
Hell hound's a comin'

Shadows part slowly as cold thunder booms
Mustering Rebels from their moldy tombs
A ghostly major mounts his pale steed
Gallops through cotton fields overgrown with weeds

Shadows part slowly
After midnight
Shadows part slowly
Ghost on the wind
Shadows part slowly
Haunted by a hoodoo
Shadows part slowly
Hell hound's a comin'
