Haunt of William P. Robertson--Master of the Macabre & Gothic Horror: Readings

The Ruins/An Unfinished Puzzle/The Moor

(William P. Robertson)

William P. Robertson

These poems epitomize the spooky region of Northwest Pennsylvania that provides the inspiration for my horror writing.  The vibe of these poems is what Gothic writing is all about.  This selection was taken from my audio book CD, Until Death Do Impart.

THE RUINS

The ruins were overgrown

with brambles and briars.

Crumbled walls cast shadows

in the moonlit gloom

& toadstools crunched underfoot.

Cold drafts seeped from

subterranean vaults.

Ghostly lovers embraced

like tangled roses.

AN UNFINISHED PUZZLE

The sky is a Ouija board of bright stars.

Frost glows on the frozen lane,

and wolves glide ghostly from a thicket.

Owls worry the marshes with their calls.

The night is an unfinished puzzle

with plenty of pieces missing.

THE MOOR

Out

on the moor

wasted trees

writhe

with

rigor mortis.

Catacombs

of mist

confuse & frighten

until dusk

creaks shut

with a blast

of black rain.
